What a real quote contains
A quote that is only a monthly payment is not a quote. Ask for all of it in writing:
System size and layout
Kilowatts DC, panel count, and which roof planes. If the layout puts panels on a shaded plane to hit a size target, you want to see that.
An annual production estimate
In kilowatt-hours, with the assumptions stated. This is the number everything else depends on.
The rate, and the escalator
Under a PPA or lease, what you pay per kilowatt-hour and how much that rises each year. The escalator is the most consequential number in the document after the rate itself.
The utility rate it is compared against
Your utility's published rate, not a national average and not a projection. If the comparison uses an assumed future utility increase, ask to see the same maths with a flat rate.
Who installs, and the warranty terms
The contractor's legal name and license number, and what the workmanship warranty covers on roof penetrations.
What to ignore
Deadlines that expire this week. Rebates that are “ending soon” without a filing reference. Any claim of a 30% federal credit for a homeowner buying a system in 2026 — that credit ended for systems purchased after December 31, 2025. Savings guarantees of any kind.
The residential federal tax credit (25D) ended for systems purchased after December 31, 2025.
You will still see ads promising a 30% credit that “ends December 31.” Read the date on them. If you buy a system today as a homeowner, you cannot claim that credit. What remains under 48E applies to the owner of the system — which, under a PPA, is us. SolarAmerica does not provide tax advice; talk to your tax professional about your situation.

How do I find a solar company near me?
Start with the ownership structure you want, then verify the installing contractor's license and insurance with your state board, then check what utility rate the savings comparison is built on. Proximity matters less than whether the installer knows your permitting office.

Are local solar installers better than national ones?
Neither, categorically. Local companies usually know the permitting and interconnection process better; national companies bring process and financing depth. Ask who is on the roof and who honors the workmanship warranty and the distinction matters less.
