The state-specific part

What a home battery is worth in New Hampshire

We have not verified a dedicated residential storage incentive in New Hampshire, so we are not going to quote you one. That leaves two honest reasons to add a battery here: riding through outages, and using more of your own production instead of exporting it. Export credit in New Hampshire works as follows: net metering at roughly 85% of retail, in statute through 2041. Check the current terms with your utility before budgeting for storage.

What home battery backup does

It does keep selected circuits running in an outage

Not the whole house, in most designs. A typical residential battery backs up a critical loads panel: refrigeration, some lighting, outlets, internet, a well pump, sometimes a single heat pump zone. Whole-home backup requires either much more storage or careful load management.

It does not, by itself, make solar work at night

It shifts daytime production into evening use. How much depends on the battery's usable capacity and how much surplus your array actually makes.

Solar without a battery shuts down in an outage

This surprises people. A grid-tied inverter is required to disconnect when the grid goes down, for the safety of line workers. Without storage and the correct switching, panels on a sunny roof produce nothing for you during a blackout.

Whole-house battery backup or essential circuits?

There are two ways to set up home battery backup in New Hampshire. An essential-circuits design keeps the things you cannot go without running: refrigeration, lighting, outlets, internet, a well or sump pump, often a furnace fan or one heating zone. A whole-house design keeps everything on, using more battery capacity or smart load management so large appliances do not drain it in an hour. Either way, solar panels recharge the battery during the day, so a home battery system paired with solar can keep going through a multi-day outage.

How to size battery backup for your home

Start from what you want to survive rather than from a product. Add up the loads you actually need for the duration you actually experience. A household that loses power for four hours twice a year has a very different answer from one at the end of a rural line that goes down for three days after every ice storm.

The residential federal tax credit (25D) ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

You will still see ads promising a 30% credit that “ends December 31.” Read the date on them. If you buy a system today as a homeowner, you cannot claim that credit. What remains under 48E applies to the owner of the system — which, under a PPA, is us. SolarAmerica does not provide tax advice; talk to your tax professional about your situation.

Questions

The things people actually ask

Is a solar battery worth it in New Hampshire?

We have not verified a dedicated residential storage incentive in New Hampshire, so we are not going to quote you one.

Will solar keep my lights on in a blackout without a battery?

No. A grid-tied inverter must disconnect when the grid goes down, for line-worker safety. Without storage and the right switching, a sunny roof produces nothing for you during an outage.

Can a battery back up the whole house?

It can. Most designs back up an essential-loads panel; whole-house backup uses more battery capacity or smart load management. Your consultation sizes it to the outages you actually get.

Do I need solar panels to get a home battery?

A battery can charge from the grid, but pairing it with solar lets your panels recharge it every day, which is what carries a home through a long outage. SolarAmerica designs solar and storage together.

How long will a home battery last in a power outage?

It depends on the battery’s usable capacity and what you run. Essential circuits can often run for a day or more on one battery, and solar recharges it when the sun comes up. Our battery backup calculator shows the hours for your own appliances.
