What is actually driving this
Supply is only part of the bill
The price to compare covers generation and transmission. Distribution, the customer charge, riders and the state tax surcharge sit on top of it. That is why a 12.6¢ price to compare does not mean a 12.6¢ bill.
A small distribution base
UGI Electric serves roughly 62,000 accounts in total. Fixed network costs spread across a small customer base land harder per household than they do at PPL or PECO.
PJM capacity costs
UGI sits inside PJM, the same wholesale market as every other Pennsylvania utility. Capacity prices have risen sharply across the footprint and are passed through to supply rates.
Shopping is available
Pennsylvania is deregulated. UGI Electric customers can buy supply from a competitive supplier while UGI continues to deliver it. That changes the supply portion only.
The honest cost picture
Two ways to pay for solar, and they are very different
If you buy the system
You own the equipment, you keep any renewable energy credits, and you carry the maintenance responsibility. Installed pricing varies by roof, shading and system size.
If you use a PPA
$0 upfront. We install and own the system; you buy the power it produces at a rate set in your agreement, and you only pay for what it actually generates. The system owner carries maintenance for the life of the agreement.
The residential federal tax credit (25D) ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.
You will still see ads promising a 30% credit that “ends December 31.” Read the date on them. If you buy a system today as a homeowner, you cannot claim that credit. What remains applies to the owner of the system — which, under a PPA, is us. SolarAmerica does not provide tax advice; talk to your tax professional about your situation.

What is UGI Electric's rate per kWh?
UGI publishes a price to compare of 12.616 cents per kilowatt-hour for residential GSR-1 service, effective 20 July 2026, inclusive of the Pennsylvania State Tax Surcharge. That figure covers generation and transmission only. UGI does not publish a single all-in residential rate that includes distribution, the customer charge and riders. For your actual all-in rate, divide your total bill by the kilowatt-hours on it. Across Pennsylvania the all-in residential average is about 21.1 cents.
Why is my UGI Electric bill higher than the price to compare suggests?
Because the price to compare is not your rate. It is the supply portion, published so you can compare it against competitive supplier offers. Your bill also carries distribution charges, a fixed monthly customer charge, riders and the state tax surcharge. On most Pennsylvania utilities those add roughly six to ten cents per kilowatt-hour on top of supply.
Where does UGI Electric provide service?
UGI Utilities Inc. — Electric Division serves parts of Luzerne and Wyoming counties in northeastern Pennsylvania, including Wilkes-Barre, Kingston, Pittston and Dallas. It has roughly 55,000 residential accounts, 7,700 commercial and 150 industrial, operating under Electric Tariff Pa. P.U.C. No. 6. It is the smallest of Pennsylvania's electric distribution utilities.
