The question everyone asks first

Is there a Ohio state solar tax credit?

None. Ohio has no state solar income tax credit and no statewide cash rebate. Ohio’s solar economics are set almost entirely by your utility’s export credit and by your own rate.

The residential federal tax credit (25D) ended for systems purchased after December 31, 2025.

You will still see ads promising a 30% credit that “ends December 31.” Read the date on them. If you buy a system today as a homeowner, you cannot claim that credit. What remains under 48E applies to the owner of the system — which, under a PPA, is us. SolarAmerica does not provide tax advice; talk to your tax professional about your situation.

What actually exists

Ohio solar incentives in 2026

Property tax exemption

Ohio is reported to exempt the added value of a qualifying residential solar system from property tax. Confirm treatment with your county auditor — we have seen this described as a full exemption but have not verified the mechanics against the statute.

Retail choice

Ohio is a deregulated state, so you can shop your supply separately from delivery. That matters here because your export credit is tied to the generation portion of your rate, not the whole bill.

What actually carries the economics

With no state credit and an export credit set at the generation rate rather than retail, Ohio rewards self-consumption rather than export. Sizing to your daytime load, and in some cases adding storage, does more for the numbers here than chasing a bigger array.

If you use a lease or a PPA

Under a lease or PPA the system owner holds the federal credit; your benefit is the power price and no upfront cost.

Verify before you rely on any of this.

State and utility programs change on their own schedules, blocks fill, and capacity caps close things early. Everything here was checked in August 2026 and is dated for that reason. Confirm the current terms with your utility or your state commission before you make a financial decision, and treat any company quoting you a hard expiry date as a closing device until they show you the filing.
