The question everyone asks first
Is there a Georgia state solar tax credit?
None. Georgia does not offer a statewide residential solar income tax credit. This one is worth stating bluntly because sales representatives in Georgia are reported to pitch a state credit that does not exist, and buyers find out when their tax preparer looks for the line item.
The residential federal tax credit (25D) ended for systems purchased after December 31, 2025.
You will still see ads promising a 30% credit that “ends December 31.” Read the date on them. If you buy a system today as a homeowner, you cannot claim that credit. What remains under 48E applies to the owner of the system — which, under a PPA, is us. SolarAmerica does not provide tax advice; talk to your tax professional about your situation.
What actually exists
Georgia solar incentives in 2026
No statewide sales tax exemption
Georgia does not exempt residential solar equipment or installation labor from sales tax. You pay the state rate plus applicable county taxes on the full system cost. On a large system that is a real number, and no relief is available.
Property tax โ sources disagree, so check your county
Some sources describe a permanent Georgia property tax exemption for solar. Others state there is no statewide law and that treatment is left to individual county assessors, with some counties reassessing and some not. We are not going to resolve that for you from a distance. Call your county tax assessor before assuming your assessment will not move.
No statewide residential SREC market
There is no certificate revenue stream for Georgia homeowners.
What actually carries the economics
Rising Georgia Power rates. Every kilowatt-hour your roof produces and you use offsets one you would have bought at a rising price. That is the whole case here, and it is a legitimate one โ it just is not an incentive.
If you use a lease or a PPA
Under a lease or PPA the system owner holds the federal 48E credit; your benefit is the power price and no upfront cost.
Verify before you rely on any of this.
State and utility programs change on their own schedules, blocks fill, and capacity caps close things early. Everything here was checked in August 2026 and is dated for that reason. Confirm the current terms with your utility or your state commission before you make a financial decision, and treat any company quoting you a hard expiry date as a closing device until they show you the filing.
