If your ZIP is not listed it does not mean we cannot serve you — Worcester County has more
municipalities than we can list here. Enter your ZIP above and it will tell you.
What your roof actually produces here
Worcester County averages about 4.0 peak sun hours a day. A well-oriented
kilowatt of panels produces roughly 1,168 kilowatt-hours a year in this part of
Massachusetts. A typical 9 kW residential system therefore produces around 10,512
kilowatt-hours annually. At a rate near 29.0¢, that production is worth roughly
$3,048 a year before any incentive.
Those are pre-shading numbers. Trees, roof pitch and orientation move them, sometimes a lot, which is
why we look at your specific roof rather than quoting from a county average.
Permitting and interconnection in Worcester County
Permits for solar in Worcester County are issued locally rather than at the state level, so requirements vary between municipalities. Interconnection is handled by your utility and runs on its own timeline after the permit clears. We manage both, and we tell you what the local process looks like before anything is scheduled.
Massachusetts solar and rate guides
Cities we cover in Massachusetts
Every Massachusetts utility rate, for context
| Utility | All-in rate | Monthly at 1,000 kWh |
| Eversource | ~30.0¢ | $300 a month at 1,000 kWh |
| National Grid | ~30.0¢ | $300 a month at 1,000 kWh |
| Unitil | ~28.0¢ | $280 a month at 1,000 kWh |
You do not choose your utility — it is set by your address. This is context for
what Worcester County pays relative to the rest of the state, not a menu.
What Massachusetts offers a homeowner
Massachusetts runs SMART, a per-kWh production tariff paid over ten years in declining blocks. There is a 15% state credit capped at $1,000 for purchases, and ConnectedSolutions pays battery owners for grid events.
How export credit works here
Net metering with capacity caps that vary by utility class.
Outages and storage in Worcester County
Solar alone does not run your house during a blackout — a grid-tied inverter has to disconnect when
the grid goes down, for line-worker safety. Adding storage and the right switching changes that. Whether
storage also makes financial sense in Massachusetts depends on the export credit above: where exports are
credited at the full retail rate there is no arbitrage to capture and storage is a resilience purchase.
Two ways to pay for solar, and they are very different
If you buy the system
You own the equipment, you keep any renewable energy
credits, and you carry the maintenance responsibility. Installed pricing varies by roof, shading and
system size.
If you use a PPA
$0 upfront. We install and own the system;
you buy the power it produces at a rate set in your agreement, and you only pay for what it actually
generates. The system owner carries maintenance for the life of the agreement.

The residential federal tax credit (25D) ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.
You will still see ads promising a 30% credit that “ends December 31.” Read the date on them.
If you buy a system today as a homeowner, you cannot claim that credit. What remains applies to the
owner of the system — which, under a PPA, is us. SolarAmerica does not provide tax
advice; talk to your tax professional about your situation.
