How to check your own rate in thirty seconds
Take the total dollar amount on your most recent bill and divide it by the kilowatt-hours you used that month. That figure includes supply, delivery, transmission, riders and taxes, and it is the only number that matters when comparing against solar. Every published average — ours included — is a stand-in for it.
If your figure is materially different from the one above, yours is right and ours is an average. Rates vary by rate class, by season and by usage tier.
What solar does against this rate
Solar does not stop your utility raising rates. It reduces how many kilowatt-hours you buy at whatever the rate becomes, and under a power purchase agreement it fixes the price of your own production in advance. That is a reduction in exposure, not a guaranteed saving, and the size of it depends entirely on your roof, your usage and your export credit.

Common questions
What does Ameren Illinois charge per kWh?
About 11.3¢ per kilowatt-hour — Price to Compare — supply plus transmission, before delivery. Source: Illinois Commerce Commission via PlugIn Illinois, effective June 1 – September 30, 2026. Divide your own bill total by kWh used for your exact figure.
Why did my Ameren Illinois bill go up?
Rate changes are filed publicly and the table above lists the current ones with dates. Most recent increases across the region have landed in delivery and transmission rather than supply, which means switching suppliers does not avoid them.
Is solar worth it against Ameren Illinois rates?
It depends on your usage, your roof and your state's export credit structure, not on the rate alone. Use the calculator with your own numbers rather than a published average.
